Büro (Bureau), 2018

In this series of installations, I construct bureaus as settings of my bureaucratic practice in which I perform specifically written prompts. Visitors are invited to engage with the Bureau in numerous ways; one of which is the archive. The archive includes several hundred items and documents of national significance, such as newspapers and official forms. Scattered among these is my collection of family keepsakes including postcards dating back to 1914, cups, containers, recipes, photos, notes and an IBM [International Bureaucratic Machines] computer which catalogs an additional 3,048 items on a local file. These items together parallel my Turkish upbringing, incorporating diffused family stories and national indoctrinations into a personal fiction.
